The Race Management Workshop at Steering the Course is a dedicated session for sailors, aspiring officials and club volunteers who want to deepen their understanding of how sailing races are run. A highlight of the festival, this workshop brings participants behind the scenes of competitive sailing, focusing on the fundamentals that make every race safe, fair and fun.

Participants will have the chance to learn from experienced race officials, covering skills such as selecting optimal courses based on wind and weather conditions, interpreting key rules of racing, managing the start and finish lines, and adjusting race instructions in response to changing conditions on the water. Attendees can observe and shadow current race officers during real race scenarios to see these techniques applied in practice, gaining confidence and practical insights into the role of race management in club and regatta events.
